There are so many face powders I use on a regular basis, for different purposes, that I have decided to split my favorite ones into several categories in order to avoid too lengthy posts.
Here are my face powder favorites. These powders are matte but not flat:
- Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish
The Airbrush Flawless Finish is a very finely milled powder which delivers a touch of coverage. I have dry skin and only apply it (shade 1 Fair) on my T-zone with a small fluffy brush to blur any pores or tone down any shine. Sometimes I also use it with a small dry sponge to tap some powder on the under-eye (in place of a Nars I will talk about in a future post), either on top of eye concealer or directly on top of eye cream just for a natural blur and some brightness. As you can tell from the picture above, it is well loved as I hit pan on it. It does wonders!
The very sleek and chic compact makes it very handy to take on-the-go for touch ups. The brand is widely available online and the retailers I get Charlotte Tilbury products from depend on whether I want products from other brands at the time of placing an order and if there are ongoing promotions and/ or gift with purchase: Charlotte Tilbury, Cult Beauty, Feelunique, Sephora, Space NK. - Chantecaille Hummingbird Perfect Blur Finishing Powder
This is a perfecting and blurring face powder which I use in place of the Charlotte Tilbury one in summer as the shade is darker. I don’t use it as under-eye powder as it still looks too dark for me in summer. It is very densely pressed, so the best is to use a brush with very densely packed bristles to pick up the powder.
The packaging is so gorgeous, like all other products from the Hummingbird Collection (summer 2020). It was limited edition and no longer available, but I read somewhere that Chantecaille may launch this powder again in the future, in a different packaging. - Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Compact Powder
The Luminous Silk Powder is in fact a very finely milled powder foundation. As such, it offers more coverage than the Charlotte Tilbury and Chantecaille powders. I have shades 2 and 3 so I can customize according to my skin tone all-through the year. Usually, I use it over a tinted spf or tinted moisturizer, to get a bit of coverage and evening out my skin. My preferred technique to apply it is to buff it with the Sonia G. Smooth Buffer (brand exclusive to Beautylish). You buy the empty compact and then you choose the refill depending on the shade you want. I like this system, it avoids having too many compacts. Although the brand is widely available in Europe, this particular product can be difficult to find sometimes. I get it from Flaconi (only delivers to Austria, Germany and Switzerland), Lookfantastic or Sephora, depending on price and ongoing promotions.
