In general, I use two types of base products under my face makeup: daily SPF protection and, what I called a special “helper”, i.e. an additional moisturizing layer or a bronzing add-on.

1. Darphin Intral Environmental Lightweight Shield SPF 50
   I have been using this SPF for years. It is a lightweight, yet also hydrating lotion. It has a slight beige tint, therefore it does not leave a white cast on the skin, but has no coverage either. It gives a natural glow to the face. It works great under makeup and I never experienced any issues using it with any of the makeup products I have ever tried (neither with cream, liquid, stick or powder foundation, nor with tinted moisturizer or the like). It has no fragrance. It can be purchased from the brand’s website on Darphin, and from Cloud10Beauty, Douglas, Feelunique, Flaconi, Notino (the cheapest price I have found), Space NK.
2. Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF 30
   I use this SPF lotion on days where there is not so much sun, definitely more in fall and winter, in place of the Darphin lotion. It is more fluid than the Darphin lotion but still very easy to apply. As it is tinted and gives a bit of coverage, I can apply it with only a layer of an overall face powder on top for a no makeup look. It also works great under any makeup base I have used. It has no fragrance. The Drunk Elephant brand is available from Cult Beauty, Douglas, Space NK.
3. Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Serum
   This product is basically a bronzing add-on that you mix with a moisturizer or foundation to give a light sun glow to the face. I like its versatility as I love mixing my base products. Although the brand is available from different retailers, I was only able to find that this particular product is currently only available from Douglas as part of a mini product set.
4. First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer
   It is a light cream I like to use when my skin needs extra hydration. I apply it on top of my daily moisturizer and it gives a lovely sheen to the skin. It doesn’t have any tint. The coconut smell is very faint, such so that I don’t mind it (I despise strong scents my skin products). It is a very good hydrating base product under makeup.
